Philippe Cramer: Reflections on Eternity

From May 5th to October 12th, 2025

About the exhibition

This season, Château Saint-Martin & Spa invites you for a timeless experience of art with three outdoor sculptural works by artist Philippe Cramer. Placed in strategic locations around the hotel grounds, the sculptures quietly preside over the gardens, complementing the verdant setting with poetry and open-ended meaning waiting to be unraveled.

Exploring notions of eternity and the internal quest for balance, Philippe Cramer's sculptures create space for reflection and a place to simply sit and be immersed in a peaceful dialog between the gentle beauty of nature and the powerful presence of art.

About the artist

Swiss-American artist Philippe Cramer studied at Sotheby's Institute of Art in London and Parson's School of Design in New York before settling in Geneva, where he founded his studio in 2001. Working across design and fine art, the artist has developed a passion for material, color, and form, nurturing partnerships with skilled artisans to create contemporary works that honor craftsmanship traditions and convey emotions that can't easily be expressed in words.

Inspired by themes ranging from antiquity, modern art, and nature, Cramer's works reflect a unique and deeply human sensibility.

Aeternus Eternus - 2025

Situated on a peaceful terrace overlooking the hotel's picturesque swimming pool, this work is at once an outdoor sculpture and an invitation for two to sit. Carved with precision from Branco Estremoz marble, Aeternus Eternus (Latin for 'forever and ever') symbolises the endless cycle of life with its twisted form inspired by the Möbius strip.

Aeternus Eternus : Totemic - 2025

With this monolithic work, Cramer continues his meditation on eternity through a vertical form. Crafted in Black Zimbabwe granite, Aeternus Eternus : Totemic draws inspiration from the double helix structure of a DNA sequence to create a space for open-ended contemplation on the invisible forces that pull us forward.

Apukalupsis - 2024

Through this compelling sculpture that appears to defy gravity, Philippe Cramer explores his enduring fascination with what he calls 'fundamental forms', or biomporphic shapes that represent primitive archetypes or single-cell organisms. Made from lacquered aluminum and accented by gold leaf, Apukalupsis questions our search for balance and points to a permanent state of valuable instablity.
