Our gentle Jurassic Park

Come with us on a journey through our own gentle Jurassic Park roaming free with 3,000 Giant Tortoises, nurturing baby turtles from nest to shore, joining the hermit crab shell swapping parties or hunting for pirate treasure!

Turtle or tortoise?

Our ecologists will reveal nature’s fascinating ability to adapt to surroundings, for instance observing the different developments in turtles and tortoises. Turtles are flatter, more streamlined for life in the sea, and tortoises have large elephantine back legs to support their heavy bodies, especially our Aldabra tortoises which can weigh up to 400 kilos! You will also find out how to get one of these giants to move off the path with just the tips of your fingers, when you are impatient to get to the beach in your buggy.

Night Safari

Join our after dark expedition along the forest paths. There are tickly millipedes that can be draped on wrists like a bracelet with 750 legs. Using a UV torch you can spot our rare luminous scorpions, don’t worry like everything on our island they are not dangerous. These fascinating arthropods have remained largely unchanged since the Carboniferous period, 300 million years ago, a perfect evolutionary success.

Pirates and parties

Just when you think you are having a private family dinner on the sea shore, shine a light on the sand and you will see hundreds of hermit crabs at their own shell swapping party, each trading up to a larger home.  Another day kids can join our castaway team to seek out their family fortune, somewhere on our island is the lost treasure of 18th century buccaneer, Olivier le Vasseur! We welcome all young explorers to our Galapagos of the Seychelles.
