Our London Spring Culture Guide

03 May 2023

Undeniably one of the world’s premier cultural hubs, London is a city that really does have everything on offer.

Nestled in Knightsbridge within walking distance to a plethora of the key attractions, The Lanesborough is home away from home in the heart of the capital. Named the No. 1 Hotel in London in Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards, our Regency residence offers a dedicated butler for every room and suite, who will happily make arrangements to help you maximize your spring or summer stay. London calling…

To help keep your cultural calendar in check, we’ve rounded up a smorgasbord of quintessentially British events that are taking place in London this spring and summer.

Chelsea Flower Show, 23-27 May

Held across five days in May, the Chelsea Flower Show brings the very best in gardening to the grounds of London's Royal Hospital Chelsea. Dubbed the world’s greatest flower show, the annual event features outstanding floral displays, enriching educational exhibits, and breath-taking gardens showcasing the latest horticultural trends. Feeling peckish? Stop off at one of the cafes or restaurants before perusing the verdant displays.

Belgravia in Bloom, 22-29 May

In its eighth year, Belgravia in Bloom is a free week-long festival taking place in Central London’s Belgravia district. This year’s theme is ‘Into the Wild’ and will come to life through vibrant floral installations and large displays inspired by the animal kingdom in partnership with the London Wildlife Trust. What’s more, Belgravia’s shops and restaurants will also participate in the festival with ‘Into the Wild’ themed menus, events, and experiences, turning the entire neighbourhood in an ode to the natural world and its diverse species. All in all, this is an outing that will certainly tick the boxes for entertaining younger family members with children!

King Charles III Coronation Ceremony, 6th May

A profoundly historic ceremony, King Charles III’s coronation is doubtless the most important event taking place in London this year. Held on the 6th of May at Westminster Abbey, the ceremony will be followed by the ‘Coronation Procession’ alongside a Royal Air Force flypast and a balcony appearance by the new King and family at Buckingham Palace, located very close to The Lanesborough! Of course, guests don’t have to venture far to get in on the momentous occasion with themed menus to an exclusive Royal photo exhibit on property.

David Hockney: Bigger & Closer, until 4th June

No cultural calendar is complete without an art exhibition and David Hockey’s Bigger & Closer is both a visual and auditory delight. Encompassing 60 years of Hockney’s art, the exhibition is a large-scale projection of his work and features music by Nico Muhly alongside narration from Hockney himself. Catch the show at Lightroom in King’s Cross.

Royal Ascot, 20-24th June

Experience the ultimate British day out by securing a spot at the famous Royal Ascot this summer. Established in 1711, the long-standing horse race takes place this year from 20-24th June and features a stellar line-up of world-class thoroughbreds alongside an array of concerts. A quick visit to the Ascot website is a must to learn the dress codes of each enclosure.

Stroll in the Royal Parks

Renowned for its pristine parks, London is home to over 5,000 acres of historic parkland. From the famous Hyde Park, on our doorstep, to the stunning Kensington Gardens, the Royal Parks are tranquil oases amid the vibrant capital and are peppered with historical buildings, memorials, and statues. There are eight parks in total and can be found both north and south of the River Thames.

Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough Grill

If you’re after a true taste of Britain, then Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough Grill is sure to sate your appetite and May marks the arrival of a new exclusive themed afternoon tea in partnership with Netflix’s Queen Charlotte – A Bridgerton Story.

Created by Salvatore Mungiovino, Head Pastry Chef of The Lanesborough, this special limited-edition tea is to celebrate the hotel’s continued connection and proximity to the British Royal family and history rooted to this period of time. Delicacies will include Your Majesty and The Lady Violet!
