Les Canthares brings together wine-lovers to exchange ideas on wine and life. Our Head Sommelier Geraud Tournier introduces selected wine makers from the grand Louis Roederer to independent presses, with tastings accompanied by amouse-bouche, followed by a gastronomic dinner and wine pairing.

Friday May 25th

Domaine du Pas de l'Escalette

Presenting both red and white wines by Julien and Delphine Zernott, whose organic vineyard produces fresh and fruity wines uncharacteristic of Languedoc. Blended with grenache and carignan and terret varietals, while the terroir is special with 50 terraces 350 meters altitude, sheltered by rock walls, with well drained clay-limestone soils.

Champagne Louis Roederer

This Champagne House is famous for so much, especially its standard bearer cuvée Cristal, created for Tsar Alexander II. Roederer has great independence with 240 hectares exclusively in the 1st and Grands Crus, providing two thirds of the wine supply. Roederer wines include the "brut 1er" of a flawless regularity, a tasty rosé, Nature Stark and a distinguished blanc de blancs.

Côte de Beaune with David Moret

David Moret is a Burgundy success story, a winemaker without vineyards he buys small parcels of grapes from the top growers to press. The recipe applied here is simplicity, with beautiful grapes suitable for the appellations. His white wines are large and powerful with a zest of brightness. This is a meandering journey through Côte de Beaune.

Piedmont and Barolo by Gianni Gagliardo

The Piedmontese wines of Gianni Gagliardo are built on acidity, colourful dresses and firm tannins, and include some of the best crus of the Barolo area. Their character is the deliciously "aristocratic" side of the Côte de Nuits wines coupled with the frankness and tannic bulk of a great Pommard.

La Paulée de la Saint-Martin

The harvest is in and now is the time for our traditional La Paulée, the Burgundian tradition held at the end of the grape harvest. La Paulée de la Saint-Martin will celebrate our loyal guests on 12th October. Following the tradition of bringing a bottle to share, our sommelier invites participants to bring Ligériens wines in honour of Saint-Martin Bishop of Tours. We will discuss the ripe cabernets, thin and chiseled muscadets, noble sauvignons, a pretty pinot noir with Burgundian accents and a racy chenin from the Layon Valley.
